![]() I have a residency at Eyebeam right now, which is an art incubator place, so I’m doing a bunch of conceptual art projects over there. There’s this company that makes large touchscreens in arcades, and I have this fantasy to be able to get the two player mode of Spelltower onto one of those and have those people playing next to each other.Īnd then I’ve still got to do languages, and if I can ever figure out a way to make turn-based multiplayer over the internet working and fun, I’d like to do that.įor me, I have a million projects that I’m supposed to be working on. There’s lots of stuff I still want to do – I want to get androids in there. None of it’s impossible.įor Spelltower, I think I’m going to try and keep the sale running a bit and see where it shakes out to. All these things that you hear about and wonder, “where are the major players?" All of that is real. Minecraft is real and Canabalt is real and Trainyard is real, and Tiny Wings is real. It’s that it’s very real – in a lot of ways, the things that you imagine happening in an indie community – the weird little success stories, and all those great stories, they’re all real. I think that’s one of the things that's really exciting about being in indie gaming. If this had been a campaign designed by a marketing agency to tell the story of indie development, it would have been brilliant, and yet this just happened naturally. It’s exciting for them to see that it’s possible. And I think there are a lot more one-man bands going on in the indie community right now. I think there’s a lot of people who have seen my work, and they’ve said okay, this guy has been working really hard for a while. I’ve recently been talking a lot and gotten a lot of attention in the indie community. Everything that’s coming out has been sort of bankrolled – we haven’t seen the Trainyard or the Tiny Wings for a while.Īnd I’ve gotten a lot of critical acclaim for the work that I’ve been doing for the past three years. All the recent successes in the past year have been large companies, though they’re still indie, like Draw Something. I don’t think there’s been a real indie success from a small shop in quite a while – the most recent one I think was Tiny Wings. If I had to guess, I think there’d be a couple reasons. I don’t know, I think I just got very lucky. Why do you think that is? Games go on sale all the time, but there’s something different here.
